Sacramento Region Community Foundation

Grants for Nonprofits

Grantmaking is at the heart of the Foundation.

As one of the largest grantmaking institutions in the region, the Foundation has the power of over 500 funds and hundreds of individual donors to support numerous causes and efforts in our region and beyond. Whether acting independently to support a fund holder's local alma mater or working collectively to make an impact on homelessness, our grants have the potential to make a difference in the lives of many people and to create lasting impact in our community.

Through our donors, the Foundation has done some amazing work.  We have enabled the completion of the landmark Crocker Museum.  Working in partnership with Lutheran Social Services, The Salvation Army, and Volunteers of America, we have housed over 5,000 individuals facing homelessness.  And we have helped rescue and rehabilitate neglected animals through The Grace Foundation. Behind each grant is a story of philanthropy in action.

With support from our own unrestricted grant dollars, the Foundation has exercised catalytic leadership by mobilizing the community around issues of great regional significance through convenings of nonprofit and service organizations, offering technical assistance and training, leveraging other donor and grant dollars to maximize impact, and raising public awareness by:

  • Spearheading GiveLocalNow, an effort to increase the rate of regional giving from 62% to 67%
  • Keeping arts in the schools through the Any Given Child initiative, a John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts community engagement effort to preserve K-8 arts education programming
  • Preparing our community for mammoth changes at the federal level in housing and homelessness prevention service, in partnership with Sacramento Steps Forward

We are a Foundation with a clear mission to make a difference and improve lives, and at its heart, our grant dollars help us do just that.
